[ARCHIVED] Wheelchair-bound man missing in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk detectives have confirmed the wheelchair-bound man missing since last evening has been found unharmed.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m. this morning, Danny Smith was located in the 2300 block of Gosnold Avenue. Police have credited the watchful eye of a railroad worker for spotting Smith and immediately contacting dispatchers.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. Foul play does not appear to be a contributing factor.


Previous Release 12/17/15:
NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk police are searching for a man witnesses say was last seen Thursday evening and may be in danger.

Danny Smith is a 49-year-old white male with blue eyes, approximately 5'9" in height and weighs 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a red hat, white shirt, and grey pants.

Witnesses say Mr. Smith was last seen leaving the Harbour Pointe Medical and Rehabilitation Center in the 1000 block of Hampton Boulevard shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2015.

Most importantly, Mr. Smith is wheelchair-bound and in need of medical monitoring.

Police encourage anyone who may have seen Mr. Smith or know his whereabouts to contact 9-1-1 immediately.
