A Norfolk father is in jail today and charged with two felonies stemming from an incident where his daughter accidentally shot herself with his gun.
Shortly before 11:00 a.m. on December 26th, police responded to a home in the 400 block of West 27th Street for a report of a child who had been shot.
Once police arrived, they located a 4-year-old girl with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital for treatment where she is expected to recover.
The father told detectives that his unattended daughter found his gun in his bedroom and accidentally shot herself.
Bradley J. Shines, of the 400 block of W. 27th Street, has since been charged with one count each of felony child neglect, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He is currently held in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond.
There is no further information available for release at this time.
