[ARCHIVED] Man dead following afternoon shooting incident

NORFOLK, Va. – An afternoon shooting has left one man dead and police searching for the possible suspect.

Shortly before 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, police dispatchers received a call for gunshots heard in the 800 block of Lindenwood Avenue. Police responded to the scene and located a man near the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released a suspect description, as the preliminary investigation has just begun and will remain ongoing. Community members in the Lindenwood neighborhood can expect a large police presence to continue through the early-evening hours, while detectives canvass the area for possible clues.

The victim's identity will not be released until police properly notify his family members.

The exact cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
