[ARCHIVED] Man dies following Friday evening shooting

Shortly after 7:05 p.m. Friday evening, officers were on scene of a barricade situation in the 1300 block of Church Street, when they heard several gunshots in the area of O'Keefe and Fremont Street.

As the officers ran to that location, they found a man lying on the ground, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life saving measures until paramedics arrived.

The man was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not released any suspect information at this time.

Once the next of kin notification process has been completed, the man's identity will be released.
