[ARCHIVED] Officers injured following call for service

NORFOLK, Va. – Two Norfolk officers are being treated at an area hospital this afternoon.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of W. Ocean View Avenue for a disorderly person. When officers attempted to speak with the man on scene, he became combative and fought with police.

Both responding officers were injured while taking the man into custody. One officer sustained a significant bite wound and the second officer suffered what has been described as minor injuries.

The man involved in the altercation was also treated at an area hospital for precautionary purposes.

Charges are currently pending against the man and Community Mental Health will be contacted for future evaluation.

There is no further information available for release at this time.
