NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team is investigating a deadly two-car crash involving a police cruiser and a Toyota Prius.
The crash occurred just after 10 p.m. at the intersection of Hampton Boulevard and Surrey Crescent Saturday night.
The police officer was traveling south on Hampton Boulevard when the Prius pulled out from Surrey Crescent and collided with it.
The driver of the Prius died at the scene. He has been identified as 79-year-old Robert E. Crittsinger Jr. of the 7400 block of Tapley Avenue.
The officer was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to be ok.
The officer was responding to a gunshot victim call on Graydon Avenue, and had the cruiser’s emergency equipment activated.
The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team is conducting the investigation. Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for review.
