NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Police Department’s Traffic Fatality Team has completed its preliminary investigation into last week’s fatal accident.

On Thursday, June 9, 2016, police responded to a major motor vehicle accident shortly before 2:00 p.m. in the 200 block of E. Little Creek Road. The scene involved a public school bus, two cars, and left one woman dead upon impact.

The preliminary investigation revealed a Lexus sedan was turning from the I-564 off ramp onto the 200 block of E. Little Creek Road. The driver of the Lexus disregarded the traffic signal and entered the intersection, striking a Norfolk public school bus traveling westbound on E. Little Creek Road. The school bus was then pushed into a Nissan Sentra, also traveling west on E. Little Creek Road.

No students were on the bus at the time of the accident and the bus driver was uninjured.

One occupant in the Nissan Sentra had minor injuries and was transported for precautionary purposes to an area hospital.

Responding medics pronounced the driver and only occupant of the Lexus dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as 18-year-old Tyra Voss of Pennsylvania.

The investigation is ongoing and it is unknown at this time if speed, impairment, or distracted driving played a factor in the accident.

There is no further information available for release.
