[ARCHIVED] A message from Norfolk Police Chief Michael Goldsmith

“This week has been terrible for our country, the communities in Baton Rouge, St. Paul, Dallas, and the law enforcement profession. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved in these tragic incidents. All loss of life is something to be grieved.”

“Within the past few hours, I’ve received an overwhelming amount of feedback from Norfolk residents, business owners and local media. Many of these people I’ve never met personally, but yet they extended their gracious support to the men and women of the Norfolk Police Department. They thanked not only us, but our profession as a whole. Most importantly, they wanted officers to know that they are not alone. I am proud to wear this uniform, and of our Norfolk community. The men and women of the Norfolk Police Department are part of the fabric of our neighborhoods and we are dedicated to the relationships we have with our citizens.”
