NORFOLK, Va. – A person driving a stolen auto fails to pull over for police, and crashes into a train.
Shortly before 7:55 p.m. Wednesday evening patrol officers spotted a known stolen vehicle, a Hyundai Sedan, near Henry Street and Church Street.
As officer were following the vehicle, the vehicle sped away from the officers at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle utilizing their emergency equipment, however, the driver continued to sped away from the officers.
Around 7:56 p.m., the stolen vehicle crashed into a train at 23rd Street and Llewellyn Avenue. Both male occupants were taken out of the vehicle before the car caught fire.
Both were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries, however both are stable at this time.
The train did not derail from the tracks, and was able to continue traveling.
There were no others vehicles involved in the crash, and no other injuries were reported.
Charges are pending for both occupants of the vehicle.
