[ARCHIVED] Stolen vehicle crashes into train, sending 2 to the hospital

NORFOLK, Va. – A person driving a stolen car refused to pull over for police, and crashed into a train Wednesday evening.

Shortly before 7:55 p.m., patrol officers spotted a known stolen vehicle, a Hyundai Sedan, near Henry Street and Church Street.

As officers were following the car, the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the sedan utilizing their emergency equipment, however, the driver refused to stop.

Around 7:56 p.m., the stolen vehicle crashed into a train at 23rd Street and Llewellyn Avenue. Both male occupants were taken out of the vehicle before the car caught fire.

Both were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries, however both are stable at this time.

The train did not derail from the tracks, and was able to continue traveling.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash, and no other injuries were reported.

Charges are pending.

There is no further information available for release at this time.
