[ARCHIVED] Man arrested for injuring two during a weekend shooting


NORFOLK, Va. – A Norfolk man was arrested over the weekend for injuring two in a shooting on McNeal Avenue.

John Ireland, 54, of the 5800 block of Early Street, has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of use of firearm during the commission of a felony, and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night, officers were called to the 1500 block of McNeal Avenue for a report of shooting. When police arrived, they located two people suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

Paramedics transported the 49-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.

Ireland was arrested near Campostella Road and Fillmore Avenue as short time after the shooting without incident. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond.
