NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on Hampton Boulevard this morning.
Shortly after 6:00 a.m., Norfolk emergency dispatchers received a call for a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of W. 38th Street and Hampton Boulevard. Police and fire-rescue arrived on scene and located a man lying in the roadway. The man was transported by medics to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and died as a result of his injuries.
The preliminary investigation discovered the victim was a pedestrian attempting to walk across the 3800 block of Hampton Boulevard and was struck by oncoming traffic. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident remained at the scene.
The victim’s name will not be released until his next of kin has been properly notified.
Police closed one north and one southbound lane on Hampton Boulevard during the accident investigation. Shortly before 9:00 a.m., all lanes were reopened for normal traffic patterns.
