NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk Police Detectives confirm an early-morning shooting is now an active homicide investigation.
Shortly before 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning, Norfolk dispatchers received a call for a possible gunshot victim in the 7800 block of Ogden Avenue. Responding officers discovered a man suffering from a single gunshot wound when they arrived on scene. Medics transported the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but he later died as a result of his injuries.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Michael A. Raether, last known to reside on a Norfolk-based Naval ship.
The preliminary investigation has confirmed the victim was the target of an attempted robbery. During the robbery, the suspect shot the victim and ran from the scene. The suspect was described as a black male with a light complexion wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
