[ARCHIVED] One dead, three injured after evening shooting

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) -  Norfolk police detectives continue to search for leads following an evening shooting that left one man dead and three injured.

Shortly before 7:45 Sunday evening, Norfolk dispatchers received calls for multiple gunshots being fired from several vehicles near the intersection of E. Princess Anne Road and Church Street.  Police responded to the scene and discovered one vehicle had left the roadway and struck a nearby apartment complex.  One man was located inside the vehicle, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  Medics pronounced the man dead on scene.

There were no injuries reported from residents inside the building.

During a cursory search of the immediate area, police confirmed three other people were shot during the incident.  Two adult women and a 17-year-old female were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.  One woman is listed in critical condition.  The second woman and teen have non-life threatening injuries and are expected to survive.

The preliminary investigation suggests this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public safety.

Detectives have classified this case as an active homicide and malicious wounding investigation.   Once the deceased is properly identified and his next of kin notified, his identity will be released publicly.

Detectives have not released a suspect description and encourage any one with information about this homicide and shooting incident to contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
