Shortly before midnight, police responded to a possible domestic assault in the 200 block of W. 31st Street.  Arriving officers confirmed the involved parties, a man and a woman, were inside the residence, but were unable to make direct contact with them.  Information obtained during the preliminary investigation suggested the woman was being held against her will by the man.  Both parties are known to each other.

Norfolk Police Hostage Crisis Negotiators responded to the scene and made contact with the individuals.  Communication continues for a peaceful resolution.

Police have created a perimeter around the incident’s location and closed the following streets to prevent any unnecessary foot or vehicular traffic:

-200 block W. 30th Street
-100 and 200 blocks W. 31st Street
-200 block W. 32nd Street

At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the public safety and no evacuations have been initiated.

As this remains an ongoing scene, updates will be made available as new information becomes available.  There is no further information available for release at this time.
