[ARCHIVED] Morning gunshot disturbance leads to homicide


NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Norfolk police detectives are investigating a homicide following a morning gunshot disturbance.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Norfolk dispatchers received several calls for a gunshot disturbance in the 1200 block of Lead Street.   Callers stated multiple shots were heard in the area and one person remained motionless on the ground.

Police responded to the scene and located what appeared to be an adult male lying in the roadway.  The man suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead by responding medics.

Norfolk police detectives continue to canvass the area throughout the early-morning hours, as the investigation remains ongoing.  The case has been classified as an active homicide.

The victim has not been positively identified, as the investigation is in its preliminary stages.   Once the victim is identified and his next of kin are properly notified, his information will be disseminated publicly.
