[ARCHIVED] Police identify man killed in early-morning shooting

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) - Norfolk police detectives positively identified the man killed in an early-morning shooting.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to the 1200 block of Lead Street after citizens reported shots heard in the area.  When first responders arrived, 19-year-old Tiqan L. Benthell was discovered lying in the roadway.  Medics declared Benthell dead at the scene.

Benthell was last known to reside in the 2900 block of Bayne Avenue in Norfolk.  Although he suffered an apparent gunshot wound, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will provide the official cause of death.

Detectives are still searching for the person or persons responsible for Benthell's death.  Although no suspect description has been provided, police encourage any one with information about this homicide to contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
