[ARCHIVED] Woman dies following shooting incident

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) - Norfolk police detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deadly shooting incident that took place Sunday afternoon.

Shortly before 12:45 p.m., Norfolk Police and Fire-Rescue responded to the 1300 block of Lead Street for a reported gunshot victim.  Upon arrival, first responders located 18-year-old Nateria S. Powell suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  Powell was transported from the scene to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she later died as a result of her injuries.

Detectives classified the case as an active homicide investigation and have not released  any suspect description; however, the preliminary investigation suggests this is an isolated incident.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of Powell's death.

Powell last resided in the 1300 block of Lead Street in Norfolk.
