[ARCHIVED] Norfolk detectives investigate second Sunday homicide

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) - Norfolk police confirm another homicide investigation is underway late-Sunday evening.

Shortly before 9:00 p.m., Norfolk emergency dispatchers received multiple calls for gunshots heard in the area of E. Ocean View Avenue and Warwick Avenue.  As police were responding to the scene, the call was upgraded to a possible gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, first responders located a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound near the intersection.  The man was confirmed dead on scene by responding medics.

The man's identity will not be released until his family is properly notified.  Additionally, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

Detectives have not released any suspect description and have classified this investigation as an active homicide.

While police conduct their preliminary investigation, evening motorists can expect traffic detours in and around the 1200 block of E. Ocean View Avenue.
