[ARCHIVED] One dead and two injured in an early morning shooting

NORFOLK, Va. – (NPD) Police are investigating a shooting incident that has left one person dead and two others injured early this morning. 

Shortly before 3:00 a.m. police were dispatched to the 700 block of Washington Avenue for multiple gunshots heard in the area. When officers arrived, they found two adult men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced one man dead on scene. The other man was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

While police were on scene, a car traveling through the Downtown Tunnel stopped at the inspection station where a third man was discovered with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was treated and released on scene.  

The preliminary investigation has revealed the incidents are related. 

Police have classified this as an active homicide investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death.

The deceased man’s identity will not be released until his family has been properly notified.
