[ARCHIVED] Two people charged after toddler dies

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Detectives have charged two people in connection with the Tuesday morning death of a toddler.

Around 3:40 a.m., Norfolk Fire-Rescue along with Norfolk Police responded to the 9600 block of 20th Bay in Ocean View for a 2-year-old that was unresponsive. When first responders arrived, they discovered the young child had sustained burns on various parts of her body. She was immediately transported by medics to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughter where she was pronounced deceased. 

Police have charged the child’s mother, 23-year-old Shelby R. Love and her boyfriend, 33-year-old John Tucker Hardee, with felony child abuse and neglect. 

Love and Hardee are currently being held in the City of Norfolk Jail without bond.
