Norfolk Public Library (NPL) invites you to travel wherever your imagination takes you with its 2018 Summer Reading Program (SRP), “Reading Takes You Everywhere.”
NORFOLK, VA – Norfolk Public Library (NPL) invites you to travel wherever your imagination takes you with its 2018 Summer Reading Program (SRP), “Reading Takes You Everywhere.”
Summer Reading Program isn’t just for kids – anyone can sign up, from babies and grandparents, to everyone in between! Trek over to any NPL location from June 23 – August 4 to register. Youth 17 and under can earn incentives and prizes by picking up a map or passport and participating in activities. Adults also have opportunities to win weekly prize drawings at each NPL location by checking out books and completing a boarding pass to drop in a bowl. Grand prize winners will be chosen at the end of SRP for the following age groups: babies, toddlers, school age, teens and adults.
Now that kids are on summer break, it’s important to prevent “summer slide,” the tendency for students to lose some of the academic gains made during the previous school year, especially reading. SRP keeps kids interested and current in reading so they are prepared for the new school year in the fall. NPL also offers educational, entertaining and enriching programs throughout the summer for all age groups.
Prizes and SRP events are made possible by the faithful support and generous funding from the Friends of the Norfolk Public Library. Event highlights include Get Your Geek Con, a geek festival for families; summer camps that focus on fashion, music, cooking and more; YOUmedia programs for teens; concerts; exhibits; Storytimes with a talking bookworm; visits from the Virginia Living Museum, and more!
Enhance your summer adventures by adding Norfolk Public Library as a travel destination for your family! For additional information about SRP and a complete list of programs, go to
