[ARCHIVED] Man charged with DUI following fatal crash on North Military Highway

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A man has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a fatal pedestrian crash Wednesday night on North Military Highway.

Investigators say that 39-year-old Jonathan Justice was attempting to cross the street in the 800 block of North Military Highway around 10:40 p.m., when he was struck by a Dodge Caravan that was traveling northbound. When first responders arrived, they found Justice, of Florida, lying in the roadway unresponsive. Medics pronounced Justice at the scene.  

The driver, James Thompson, 50, stayed at the scene and was not injured. As a result of the investigation Thompson has been charged with driving under the influence and driving while suspended. Thompson is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.

Once the Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team completes their investigation, their findings will be turned over the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for determination of additional charges.

There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries were reported.
