Company was recruited to the NEON District by Norfolk Department of Economic Development
Students and teachers across the country have access to the next generation of digital interactive learning tools thanks to locally-owned Amplified IT, located on Granby St. in the NEON District.
Google has recognized Amplified IT’s incredible impact with their highest award for education, the prestigious Google Cloud Global Partner of the Year award. Representatives from Amplified IT accepted the award on July 23rd while attending the Google Partner Summit in San Francisco.
“Innovative concepts and creative, hard working entrepreneurs are growing our economy and creating new jobs,” said Councilwoman Andria McClellan. “Amplified IT is at the core of this, and I am thrilled that this hometown company is being recognized as an international leader by none other than Google for the incredible work they are doing with education and schools all over the country and the globe.”
Amplified IT has assisted over 4,000 school districts across 46 states, playing a role in the daily education of over 24,000,000 students. They have worked with 10 of the 15 largest school districts in the country, including New York, Atlanta, and Chicago. Amplified IT assists schools in developing actionable road maps for using Google for Education technology to ensure Google Cloud supports their learning initiatives. This guidance enables IT staff and helps to prepare schools to implement Chromebooks and Google’s Suite of services, such as Google Classroom, which teaches students invaluable literacies like digital citizenship and online ethics.
Prior to establishing themselves within the boundaries of the NEON District in early 2015, Amplified IT searched across the Hampton Roads region for a home. They chose Norfolk because they were excited to be a part of the city’s burgeoning technology corridor, and their owners felt like Norfolk was the best place to raise a family.
“Before moving to Norfolk we met with Norfolk’s Department of Economic Development, where they laid out the plans for the future of Norfolk. We were sold,” said Tim Lee, Founder and CTO of Amplified IT. “We wanted to be a part of the New Energy of Norfolk.”
The impact of Amplified IT’s work is real, on both learning and budgets. G Suite allows for more student-centered learning, with built-in efficiencies that help districts save thousands of dollars year over year. Schools are having to make up less bad weather days, for example, thanks to the mobile learning capacities Amplified IT has helped provide.
“It is important to attract, grow and retain successful, global businesses like Amplified IT," said Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Alexander. "Amplified IT shines light on the growing and emerging information technology sector in Norfolk and in the Commonwealth. Amplified IT and businesses like it are one of the many reasons why Norfolk is being reimagined from an old seaport city to the coastal city of the future, and the city would like to see more businesses like Amplified IT call Norfolk home.”
Over 90% of school districts in Virginia have leveraged Google for Education in various ways. The work Amplified IT does is the present and the future of educational technology. It’s all happening out of a refurbished office in the NEON District.
“With our bike lanes, the NEON District, and things like the Elizabeth River Trail, Norfolk has created a city where we want to grow both our business and families,” said Tim Lee, whose company has recruited talent from cities like Seattle, Minneapolis, and San Francisco. “Norfolk has delivered on their promise to turn the city into a vibrant cultural center.”
