NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A 14-year-old was killed Monday evening after being hit by a car while riding a scooter.
Investigators say the teenager was attempting to cross the street on his scooter at the intersection of Shoop and Peronne Avenue shortly before 8:00 p.m., when he was struck by a car. When first responders arrived, they found the teen lying in the roadway. Medics pronounced him deceased on scene.
The driver of the car stayed at the location and was not injured. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash.
Once the Norfolk Police Traffic Fatality Team completes their investigation, their findings will be turned over the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for determination of charges.
There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries were reported.
