NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Police are investigating after a
motorcyclist died in a crash after colliding with a school bus Monday afternoon.
Shortly after 5 p.m., first responders were
called to a serious motor vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Granby Street
and East Gilpin Avenue involving a motorcycle and a Norfolk Public School bus.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the motorcycle
was traveling northbound on Granby Street and the bus was traveling eastbound
on East Gilpin Avenue. The vehicles collided in the intersection.
The motorcyclist, 58-year-old Ricky Lupton of the 9400 block of Selby Place, was taken to the
hospital with serious injuries; however, he died shortly after arrival.
The bus driver and the three Oceanview Elementary students on-board were not injured during the crash.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
Once the traffic fatality team has completed their
investigation, the findings will be turned over to the Commonwealth
Attorney’s Office for review and determination of charges.
