[ARCHIVED] Man identified from Friday night’s fatal shooting

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Norfolk police have identified the man fatally shot on W. Ocean Avenue  as 29-year-old Ernesto W. Crespo of Norfolk.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2018 dispatchers received multiple calls for shots heard in the 100 block of W. Ocean Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Crespo laying outside with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

The investigation led police to the 8700 block of Commodore Drive where a car matching the description of the suspects’ car was found. The investigation further revealed the owner of the car, 22-year-old Robert J. Dabney was inside a home.

Members of the Norfolk Police Negotiation Team attempted to make contact with Dabney but were unsuccessful. Around 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, October 13th, Dabney was found dead inside the residence. His body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for determination of the exact cause of death.

Detectives have not released a motive or the circumstances surrounding this deadly incident.
