[ARCHIVED] Larchmont Branch Library Celebrates 50 Years

Festivities start at 12:00 p.m. on November 3rd

NORFOLK, VA – The Larchmont Branch Library opened its doors in November of 1968. For 50 years, it has been a destination for generations of families that reside in the area. Every day, you will find the branch bustling with patrons of all ages. Military families in particular are a big piece of the patron base. Each day, the branch issues several new library cards for service members who are moving back to Norfolk. Uniquely situated on a beautiful wetlands area, the branch serves as an access point for the Elizabeth River. Throughout the day, you will see people jogging, cycling or taking nature strolls. Larchmont Branch is also the inaugural stop for the War at Home Memorial, on exhibit through May 2019. Join us for a 50th Anniversary Celebration of this well-loved library on the river Saturday, November 3, from noon to 4:00 p.m. The library is located at 6525 Hampton Boulevard, in Norfolk, Virginia. Festivities will commence with guest speakers, followed by a light reception. Sargeant Memorial Collection staff will be on hand with a pop-up exhibit, and City Historian Peggy Haile-McPhillips will present a program at 3:00 p.m., “Larchmont Branch Library at 50," that offers a historical overview of the library and the neighborhood it has served for half a century.
