[ARCHIVED] Help “Shatter the Silence”

Participate in A Lifesaving Suicide Prevention Event

NORFOLK, VA – Now in its third year, Shatter the Silence will be held at the Attucks Theater, 1010 Church Street in Norfolk on November 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This FREE interactive event encourages teens and young adults to ask for help by learning about the warning signs of suicide and gaining information on the resources available in their communities.  The event was rescheduled from September due to Hurricane Florence.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among Virginians ages 15 to 34, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Survivors, community leaders, and professionals will share stories that demonstrate the value of speaking up and attendees will enjoy performances by Glam Kids and Teens With a Purpose, along with several speakers to include Michelle Peterson from the Sarah Michelle Peterson Foundation.

Attendants will receive a boxed dinner and an opportunity to win a variety of prizes such as tickets to Busch Gardens, an iPad, and dozens of restaurant gift cards.

This event is a collaborative effort between the community services boards of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Chesapeake.
