[ARCHIVED] Virginia Beach Blvd. & Brambleton Ave. Lanes Close for Pump Station Renovations

The renovations include repairs to the pumps, valves and piping, and modifications to the storm drains.

NORFOLK, VA – Beginning the first week in January, Norfolk Public Works crews will renovate two pump stations at the underpasses of Virginia Beach Blvd. and Tidewater Dr. and Brambleton Ave. and Tidewater Dr. The renovations include repairs to the pumps, valves and piping, and modifications to the storm drains.  Crews will also raise and relocate the electrical equipment.

Both pump stations were damaged in October 2016 during Hurricane Matthew. Heavy rains in a short period of time overwhelmed the pump stations.  As a result, the pumps stopped working and the underpasses flooded.

The renovation projects will take at least six months to complete.  Alternating lane closures will occur where Virginia Beach Blvd. and Brambleton Ave. intersect with Tidewater Drive. Motorists are encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid construction.
