NORFOLK – After months of work, Hampton Roads Transit launched its new website this month with a design that is easy to use and adds news features and functionality customers will enjoy.
The new gohrt.com was developed using a “mobile-first” approach, meaning the site was built starting with the small screens on mobile phones in mind. When viewed on a larger device like a tablet or monitor, text and graphics resize proportionally, and the content fills out the wider screen.
In short, the site remains easy to read on every screen.
“It was an incredible team effort,” said Mike Budahan, HRT’s web developer. “Well over 30 staff members helped in moving information from the old site to the new, and I think the team effort really shows.”
Users will find the new site less cluttered and organized in a way that makes the information most commonly viewed quickly available. There are many new features as well.
Customers can now more easily make use of the numbers associated with bus stop signs. Simply type in the bus stop number on the “My Stop” feature and the system will automatically tell you what bus routes serve that stop and the locations of the closest places to buy tickets.
Information on routes is dynamically displayed, meaning that when a customer calls up information on a specific route schedule, the site displays the schedule with the current hour. This saves customers time from having to review an entire schedule and then locating the current time on the time chart.
Route schedules are formatted in such a way as to eliminate the previous need to downloading cumbersome documents. Maps are displayed using interactive Google Maps.
The site also allows customers to keep the agency calendar synced to their phone, so that all public meetings are automatically loaded into customer’s calendar if the customer chooses that feature. A one-day reminder is part of the service.
The new site also displays Customer Alerts continuously at the bottom of the screen saving the trouble of looking them up if there is an alert that relates to your route.
