[ARCHIVED] Three detained following shooting inside MacArthur Center

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Detectives have detained three people, including one of the people shot, following a shooting inside MacArthur Center Thursday afternoon.

Around 2:15 p.m., a fight occurred between two groups of people inside the first floor of MacArthur Center. During the altercation, two people were shot.

When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old and a 16-year-old suffering from non-life-threatening gunshots wounds. The 16-year-old was transported to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters while the 18-year-old was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Both are expected to be okay.

As a result of the investigation, three 18-year-old men have been detained and charges are pending. One of the three people detained was the 18-year-old man found shot inside the mall.

MacArthur Center was placed on lock-down for approximately two hours while police investigated the incident. The mall has since reopened for business.

This shooting is being investigated as an isolated incident and the investigation is ongoing. Once formal charges are secured and updated release will follow.
