[ARCHIVED] Police ID man who died after Norview Avenue crash

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Police have identified the 23-year-old man who died following a two-vehicle crash on Norview Avenue as Austin M. Cook of Norfolk.

The crash occurred in the 1400 block of Norview, near the I-64 overpass around 6 p.m. Sunday evening.

The investigation has revealed that Cook was heading east on Norview when he lost control of his vehicle which jumped over the median and crossed over into the westbound lanes and was hit by a Ford F150.

Cook, of the 6200 block of Bridle Way, was taken to Norfolk General with serious injuries; but, was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay.

There were no other injuries reported and no other vehicles were involved.

Both east and westbound traffic lanes in the 1400 block of Norview were closed several hours Sunday evening while police investigated.

Once the investigation is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Office of the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney for review.
