[ARCHIVED] Missing boater’s body recovered from boat in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The body of the missing boater, 65-year-old Paul Youngk, was recovered from inside his capsized boat Monday morning.

Youngk of Suffolk was last seen on Saturday, April 20, on his sailing vessel Grafin, which had run aground off Fort Norfolk.

On Sunday, April 21, around 5:20 a.m., dispatchers received a call about a capsized boat approximately 15 feet from shore in the 500 block of Front Street. When first responders arrived, they attempted to locate the owner of the boat, but were unsuccessful.

Several agencies responded to the area over the weekend to investigate, including the United States Coast Guard, Virginia Marine Police, Norfolk-Fire Rescue, and the Norfolk Police Harbor Patrol.

Monday morning, around 8:45 a.m., crews recovered Youngk’s body from his boat.

The case has been classified as an undetermined death investigation and has been turned over to the Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death.
