[ARCHIVED] Suspect arrested by Virginia State Police following parental abduction in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – On September 7, 2020, around 3:00 a.m., Norfolk Police responded to Sentara Leigh Hospital located at 830 Kempsville Road for the report of a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived on-scene, they observed the suspect, later identified as Bryan P. Valdez, 32, of Norfolk, inside of a vehicle in the hospital parking lot. The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, and Valdez fled the area.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Valdez had fled the City of Norfolk while in custody of the couple’s 4-year-old child.

Immediately, Norfolk police requested the assistance of outside law enforcement agencies, including the Virginia State Police, with attempting to locate Valdez and the 4-year-old child.

Virginia State Police spotted Valdez’s vehicle traveling on I-64 in New Kent County, Virginia on Monday afternoon, and took Valdez into custody.

The 4-year-old child was transported to the hospital to be evaluated and was returned to the care of his mother.

In addition to charges secured by Virginia State Police, Valdez has been charged with Felony Threats in Writing by the Norfolk Police Department and Threat to Burn by the Norfolk Fire Marshalls.

Valdez is currently being held without bond at the Henrico County Jail.
