[ARCHIVED] Tell Your Neighborhood’s Tale!

Neighbors Building Neighborhoods conference provides support and know-how

NORFOLK, VA – Join your neighbors to Tell a New Story about Norfolk’s neighborhoods at this year’s mini Neighbors Building Neighborhoods conference, Mermaid Tales 2021!

This annual event supports the Neighbors Building Neighborhoods’ mission of creating places where people want to live, invest their time, money and energy, and manage neighborhood issues and change successfully. It accomplishes this mission by helping neighbors work together to assume ownership, know and care for each other, create beautiful and clean blocks, and invest in their homes.

This year’s conference encourages neighbors not to turn the clock back to 2019, but to step forward into a brighter future. The three-day event kicks off Sunday, July 25th at 4 p.m. with an in-person festive event with networking, live music and food at Norfolk’s Pagoda, 265 Tazewell Street. Marla Newman, Director of Community Development in Winston-Salem, will give the keynote address. Cost is $10 per person and registration is limited.

On July 26 from 6-7:30 p.m., join the free virtual session “Build the Block Beyond Your Boundaries.” Get tips on how Norfolk residents have teamed up with local businesses to shape their neighborhood story.

Finally, On July 27 from 6-7:30 p.m., join the free virtual session “The @ Game!” to learn from the experts how to effectively tell your neighborhood story on social media and beyond!

“We are excited to resume this skills and strength building conference,” said Neighborhood Services Director Michelle Johnson. “Neighbors Building Neighborhoods is all about providing opportunities for friends and neighbors to learn from each other and work together to make their communities excellent places to live.”
