[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Named One of the Best Places to Work in Local Government

Norfolk is the only city in Virginia to receive recognition

NORFOLK, VA – If public service is your calling, the City of Norfolk is your place!  Engaging Local Government Leaders (ELGL) has named the City of Norfolk one of the best places to work in local government for 2021.

Inspired by the character Donna Meagle on the television show “Parks and Recreation,” the ELGL Best Local Government Workplaces Award recognizes the local governments that have developed, cultivated, and nurtured workplaces that encourage employee creativity, loyalty, and success. Norfolk was recognized for its outstanding work-life balance, benefits, and mental health support.

“This is a tremendous honor for Team Norfolk. Public service takes special people, and the city employees that serve our citizens each day do it with their whole heart. When our city employees nominate their workplace, that makes this recognition even more special,” said Dr. Chip Filer, City Manager.

The City’s best practices will be featured in the ELGL content library for other local governments to review and implement.

The Norfolk joins Fort Collins, Colo.; Parkland, Fla.; Hopkins, Minn.; Pasco County, Fla.; and McHenry County, Ill., to receive this recognition.
