Nominate a neighbor for an U.P.L.I.F.T. award
NORFOLK, VA – It’s back and better than ever! Join us at Lakewood Park on September 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Neighborhood Expo and second annual U.P.L.I.F.T. Awards.
This event celebrates Norfolk’s diverse and unique neighborhoods and promotes unity and civic engagement. We will shine a spotlight on civic leagues and provide plenty of opportunities and demonstrations of the ways residents can get involved in their own communities.
Festivities include food trucks, music, raffles, exhibitors, entertainment and prizes. Bring a lawn chair and dress comfortably as the event is entirely outdoors – light rain or shine.
“This is a chance for neighborhoods to showcase what they have been doing, with resources from around the city and the region to give them the tools they need to be successful,” said Ryan “Nikki” Southall, Neighborhood Relations Manager. “The Expo was cancelled last year because of COVID-19. This year we are focused on something to bring communities together and making positive pivots to what we are going to do to move forward, and not look backward to how we were.”
The community U.P.L.I.F.T. Awards also return to recognize Unity, Public Service, Leadership, Innovation, Friendship and Teamwork. These awards honor those who performed an act of service that benefited their community and the residents of Norfolk during the pandemic. This includes individuals, civic leagues or community organizations, businesses, non-profits and religious organizations – any individual or group that made a meaningful impact in the community to help others.
Nominations will be accepted through 5 p.m. August 27. For a full explanation of criteria and to find the nomination form, visit www.norfolk.gov/expo.
