[ARCHIVED] Undetermined death investigation now classified as a Homicide

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Detectives are investigating a homicide after new evidence was found during an ongoing undetermined death investigation. 

On August 12,2021 around 12:50 a.m., Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded a home in the 3500 block of Somme Avenue for the report of a house fire. While fighting the fire, firefighters located a woman’s body inside of the home. Medics pronounced the woman deceased at the scene.  

The woman was later identified as, Leslie Vaughn, 69, of Norfolk.

During the investigation, Detectives and the Fire Marshal’s Office located video footage that determined the house fire was the result of an arson.   

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has classified this incident as a homicide and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip through the P3 mobile app.
