[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Earns Three Procurement Awards in Three Months

Awards highlight commitment to excellence in city’s Procurement Office

NORFOLK, VA  The Purchasing Office of Norfolk’s Department of Finance received three high honors in procurement in a matter of a few months. The city received the National Institute of Government Procurement (NIGP) Agency Advancement Award in July, the National Procurement Institute’s Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award in August and the prestigious Accreditation for Quality Public Procurement Departments in September.

Earning these awards recognizes the commitment and hard work of the Department of Finance’s Purchasing Office. Receiving all three awards in the same year highlights the incredible efforts and significant progress that has been made in the city’s procurement processes headed by a dedicated team of procurement professionals.

The NIGP Agency Advancement Award recognizes an individual or team who has developed a stellar procurement-related program or process improvement and is only given to one recipient each year. This was Norfolk’s first time receiving this award.

This is Norfolk’s second year receiving the Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute. This recognition shows the high standards that the city meets in public procurement processes that ensure competency, productivity, transparency and good customer service.

The QPPD accreditation is valid for three years and is the result of an intensive evaluation by a team of nationally recognized experts who are tasked with identifying excellence in public procurement based on the standards and best practices of the professionThis is the first time Norfolk has received the QPPD Accreditation.
