NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Norfolk Police have arrested the man responsible for a shooting that left another man dead.
Around 9:00 a.m. on October 14, 2021, police responded to the Quality Suites Lake Wright Hotel located at 1521 Premium Outlets Boulevard for the report of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they located 33-year-old Matthew S. Philbrick inside of a hotel room suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Philbrick was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Detectives have charged Gary D. Toone Jr., 21, with second degree murder and use of a firearm. Toone is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail with no bond.
The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident have not been released.
