[ARCHIVED] Suspect arrested, Norfolk Police identify women killed following shooting on Whitaker Lane

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Detectives have arrested and charged the man responsible for a shooting Wednesday evening that left three women dead, and two others injured.

Just after 6:00 p.m. on November 3, 2021, Norfolk Police were called to the 800 block of Whitaker Lane for the report of multiple gunshot victims. When Officers arrived, they located five women who were suffering from gunshot wounds. 

Three of the women, Detra R. Brown, 42, of Suffolk, Nicole Lovewine, 45, of Norfolk, and Sara E. Costine, 44, of Lithonia, Georgia, were pronounced dead at the scene. 

A 39-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Both women are expected to recover from their injuries.

A short time later, police took the suspect, Ziontay B. R. Palmer, 19, of Virginia Beach, into custody. Palmer has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder, two counts of malicious wounding, and five counts of use of a firearm. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.Z. Palmer

The preliminary investigation has determined the shooting was domestic-related.
