[ARCHIVED] Juvenile suspects charged in connection with Friday afternoon’s vehicle theft

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) –Detectives have arrested and charged two juveniles following a vehicle theft that occurred on N. Military Highway.

On December 3, 2021, around 3:50 p.m. an Officer was flagged down by a citizen at the Wawa parking lot located at 1146 N. Military Highway. The man reported to the Officer that his car had just been stolen, and that his 8-year-old daughter was inside of the car when it was taken.

Officers in the area quickly responded to assist, and the stolen car was located. When Officers attempted to approach the car, the driver sped off.

Believing the 8-year-old girl to still be in the car, Officers pursued the car until the driver stopped in the 6200 block of Alexander Street. After a short chase on foot, Officers took two juveniles into custody.

When police checked the stolen car for the 8-year-old girl, she was not inside. The search continued for the missing child until she was safely located in Virginia Beach in the care of her mother. It was then determined that the child had never been in the car.

Detectives issued the victim a summons for falsely summoning law enforcement, and he was released.

As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old male has been charged with: Grand larceny of a stolen vehicle, felony eluding, and conspiracy to commit larceny. A 15-year-old male has been charged with conspiracy to commit larceny.

Both juveniles are currently being held at the Norfolk Detention Center.
