Norfolk Parks & Forestry Operation Awarded a $1 million Grant through funding from the Inflation Reduction Act. The agency has selected 385 grant proposals from entities that are working to increase equitable access to trees and green spaces, and the many benefits they provide. 100% of funding will flow to disadvantaged communities, and funded proposals are located in all 50 states, two U.S. territories, three U.S. affiliated Pacific islands, and in several tribal communities. This funding will support the expansion of tree canopies in nature-deprived communities. Funding will be used to create positions to manage capacity in the CEJST area, increase maintenance practices, employ, and empower underserved community residents, and create nursery stock for replanting of vacant sites and new tree plantings in areas that are suffering from heat island effect.
