Man Convicted of Robbing Norfolk Credit Union with Threatening Note
NORFOLK, Va. – Ricky Jerrell Johnson, 45, was convicted Friday in Norfolk Circuit Court of robbery by threat after he robbed a bank teller via passing a note earlier this year.
On June 2, Mr. Johnson robbed a Chartway Credit Union teller by handing them a note claiming that he had a gun and that he would shoot them if they did not comply with his demand for cash. The teller gave him cash in a bag with a tracker inside, and Mr. Johnson left the bank. Norfolk Police later located Mr. Johnson, who was not armed at the time, and arrested him.
On Friday, Mr. Johnson pleaded guilty as charged of robbery by threat, and Judge Mary Jane Hall accepted his plea with no agreement to his sentence. Mr. Johnson is docketed for sentencing on Feb. 9.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney A. Robinson Winn is prosecuting Mr. Johnson’s case on behalf of the Commonwealth, and Norfolk Police Detective A. R. Kay led the investigation.
