[ARCHIVED] Woman arrested following barricade situation on Gabriel Drive.

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A woman has been taken into custody by Norfolk Police following an hours long barricade situation on Gabriel Drive. 

On December 11, 2023, around 11:25 a.m. Norfolk police were called to a home in the 1400 block of Gabriel Drive to assist a Norfolk Sheriff’s Deputy. When officers arrived, they learned that a woman at the home had brandished a firearm while a Norfolk Sheriff’s Deputy was serving an eviction notice.

As a result, the Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Operations Team responded to the scene, and after several hours of negotiations, the woman, identified as Courtnay H. Draughn, 49, was taken into custody on December 12th, around 12:25 a.m.

Draughn was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries that are believed to have been self-inflicted during the incident.

As a result of the investigation, Draughn has been charged with brandishing a firearm. Upon her release from the hospital, she will be taken to the Norfolk City Jail.

There were no other reported injuries during this incident.
