Man Sentenced to 1 Year After Pleading Guilty to 2023 Grand Theft of Motorcycle
NORFOLK, Va. – Demetrice Arnell McClammy, 36, was sentenced on Monday to one year in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing a motorcycle by towing it from a Norfolk resident’s home last year.
On July 6, the victim reported to Norfolk Police that his 2019 Honda motorcycle was stolen from outside his Mayfield Avenue house. Home surveillance video from earlier that day showed a white SUV pulling into the victim’s driveway, Mr. McClammy exiting the SUV, Mr. McClammy securing a tow rope to the victim’s motorcycle and to the SUV, and Mr. McClammy sitting on the motorcycle while another individual driving the SUV towed it out of the driveway. Norfolk Police entered the white SUV information to the FLOCK system, identified its owner, and located the owner and Mr. McClammy on July 20. When Mr. McClammy was arrested, he was in possession of the same clothing seen on the home surveillance footage from the motorcycle theft.
Mr. McClammy pleaded guilty on Monday to the grand larceny of an automobile. Judge Mary Jane Hall accepted Mr. McClammy’s plea with an agreed sentence of one year in prison, with another four years suspended on the conditions that Mr. McClammy pay restitution to the victim and be of uniform good behavior for five years following his release.
“Quick police work and FLOCK technology led to a quick arrest of Mr. McClammy and a sentence that fit his crime,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “We will continue to work to hold accountable the people who steal from our citizens.”
Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott C. Vachris prosecuted Mr. McClammy’s case on behalf of the Commonwealth, and Norfolk Police Detective Mark R. Lowery led the investigation.
