Six FREE performances to bring the community together at the historic Attucks Theatre
NORFOLK, Va. – The historic Attucks Theatre (1010 Church St.) comes alive this fall with “Arts at the Attucks,” a series of six free performances offering extraordinary opportunities to experience diverse and enriching local cultural programming.
Each performance features local artists providing unique and memorable experiences for audiences of all ages in the beautiful Attucks Theatre, a venue steeped in history in the heart of the City.

“Arts at the Attucks” is made possible by Norfolk Arts, Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts Polyphonic Culture Arts Equity Grant.
The Attucks Theatre, designed by African American architect Harvey Johnson, opened in 1919 and quickly became known as “The Apollo of the South,” showcasing legendary performers such as Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Mamie Smith, Nat King Cole and Redd Foxx. The theatre is named in honor of African American Crispus Attucks, the first patriot to lose his life in the American Revolution. After several decades, the theatre closed. The Attucks Theatre was named a historic landmark in 1977 and was reopened in 2004.
