NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Five people have been charged in connection with an early morning barricade Sunday in the Ballentine Place neighborhood.
On November 24th around 4:21 a.m. Norfolk Police received multiple reports of a gunshot disturbance on Grandy Avenue. When Officers arrived in the area, they continued to hear active gunfire and quickly determined the gunshots were coming from a home in the 3100 block of Cape Henry Avenue.
The officers attempted to make contact with the residents; however, were unsuccessful.
The Hostage/Crisis Negotiation Team and Special Operations Team responded to assist, and seven people were placed in custody at the scene without issue.
Following the investigation, two of the individuals were released from custody, and five were charged with discharging a firearm in public, and reckless handling of a firearm.
Detectives charged: George T. Sheriff, 28, of Norfolk, Jesus A. Potestas, 26, of Norfolk, Joseph C. Umidi, 24, of Norfolk, Celia M. Buonomo, 27, of Norfolk, and Lindsey B. Eddington, 29, of Norfolk
Sheriff was also charged with maintaining a common nuisance.
Sheriff, Potestas, Umidi, Buonomo, and Eddington are all currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
No injuries were reported during this incident.
