Special Crimes Unit

The Special Crimes Unit investigates all reported incidents of Sexual Assault, Family Violence, and Crimes Against Children. These Investigators are trained with a specific expertise to investigate highly personal crimes such as sexual assault,  abuse, and stalking.  The Special Crimes Unit is centered on a victim-centered approach and works in partnership with numerous outside agencies, including but not limited to the Family Justice Center, YWCA, Chesapeake Forensics Nurses, Child Advocacy Center, CHKD, Child Protective Services,  and Adult Protective Services.   • The Missing Persons Section investigates missing persons and runaway cases, working in partnership with the Virginia State Police to disseminate statewide alerts.

Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC)

  • ICAC is a multi-agency law enforcement task force that investigates and prosecutes crimes against children involving the internet. These units investigate crimes like child sexual abuse material (CSAM) distribution, online enticement, and cyber predation. The task force also provides training, forensic analysis, and public education on internet safety.
